Disaster Preparedness Program Announces Four Projects to Support All-Hazards Preparedness for Coastal Communities
August 14, 2023 – OR&R’s Disaster Preparedness Program (DPP) is partnering with NOAA Sea Grant for the second time to help coastal communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters, such as hurricanes, flooding, tsunami, earthquake, and climate hazards. On August 8, 2023, DPP announced the four new projects, which total to $634,936 in FY23 federal funds, will take place in New Jersey, North Carolina, Oregon, and South Carolina.
The goals of the projects are to strengthen local disaster readiness and recovery amongst NOAA, partners, and coastal communities, however, each project will take a different approach tailored to local needs regarding disaster preparedness. Read more about each project here.
This announcement follows in last year’s footsteps when DPP first kicked off this partnership. In FY2022, DPP and Sea Grant announced three competitively selected projects to help reduce the effects of disasters more effectively, led by Hawai’i Sea Grant, MIT Sea Grant, and Wisconsin Sea Grant. All of these projects are ongoing.
