Amy Merten chosen as NOS Employee of the Month

JULY 14, 2017--Congratulations to Dr. Amy Merten of OR&R for being recently selected as NOS Employee of the Month.

Amy leads the OR&R Assessment and Restoration Division Spatial Data Branch. You probably know her through her work on the Environmental Response Management Application (ERMA®).

This award recognizes Amy's work as Chair of the Arctic Council’s Emergency Prevention, Preparedness, and Response Working Group (EPPR), serving a two-year term. The Arctic Council promotes cooperation, coordination and interaction among the eight Arctic countries, Arctic indigenous communities, and other Arctic inhabitants on common issues, specifically working to protect the Arctic environment from the threat or impact of an accidental release of pollutants or radionuclides. Amy led the working group on Emergency Prevention Preparedness and Response. One of the major tasks of the working group was to conduct a table top oil spill drill. Seven U.S. agencies and all eight Arctic nations participated in the drill. This 2016 exercise led to the commitment to additional training and exercises, data sharing agreements, and improved communications and notification.

Look for her picture around the Silver Spring and Seattle campuses.
