JULY 14, 2017--On June 28-29, the Marine Debris Program Chief Scientist, Amy Uhrin, and Research Coordinator, Carlie Herring, participated in a microplastics workshop held by the EPA in Crystal City, Virginia.

This workshop brought together microplastic experts from academia and governmental agencies (EPA, NOAA, FDA, USGS) to discuss the research needs and data gaps in microplastic research. The workshop focused on four topics including: 1) Microplastic Methods, 2) Sources and Fate of Microplastics in the Environment, 3) Ecological Impacts of Microplastics, and 4) Human Health Impacts of Microplastics. A final report of workshop proceedings will be available in the future.
