Second Oregon Marine Debris Action Plan Workshop

NOVEMBER 10, 2016--On November 2 and 3, over 40 marine debris experts from agencies, NGO, industry, and academia convened at the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, Oregon, to complete the Oregon Marine Debris Action Plan.

Participants discussed strategies and actions to reduce marine debris in Oregon, agreed on the Plan’s duration and communication among the partners, and volunteered to lead or support actions that when implemented, will help prevent and remove marine debris in Oregon. The workshop, kindly hosted by Oregon Sea Grant and supported by the NOAA Marine Debris Program, served to solicit input from partners to complete the Action Plan. The next steps are to finalize the Plan and the document, and later to implement the actions listed in the Plan in order to better address marine debris in Oregon collaboratively and effectively.
