CAMEO Chemicals Development History

The current version of CAMEO Chemicals is 2.3. To use that version, you can either go to the CAMEO Chemicals website or download a standalone version of the program. The major changes for each version are listed below, along with the release dates.

If you have questions about the program, email the CAMEO Chemicals Specialist.

Version 2.3 (August 2012)

  • Updated to the 2012 ERG data, including the new Table 3 from the green pages.
  • Revised the UN/NA number assignments on many records, including adding numbers to many records that previously did not have UN/NA numbers.
  • Added placards/labels to the top of chemical datasheets, based on the DOT Hazard Label field. Note that this field is based on the 49 CFR Hazmat Table information on the UN/NA datasheets; refer to the UN/NA datasheet for more information.
  • Revised layout of NFPA 704 section on chemical datasheets. The NFPA diamond has been moved down into the Chemical Identifiers section, and the descriptive text has been updated.
  • Added new ALOHA indicator icon. If there is a palm tree icon after the CAS number on a chemical datasheet, you may be able to model a release of that chemical in ALOHA.
  • Added new Isolation and Evacuation field to chemical datasheets, which displays distance recommendations from the 2012 ERG response guides.
  • Updated the regulatory information using the 2011 EPA List of Lists. The regulatory section display was also changed to a table to better reflect the source data, including footnotes.
  • Updated Tychem® suit fabric information from DuPont. This information is now shown as a table of normalized breakthrough times.
  • Added annotations to some CAS numbers, UN/NA numbers, and DOT Hazard Labels. On records where multiple values could cause confusion, we've begun adding some explanatory text to clarify what the values are. This will be an ongoing process.
  • Modified several placard graphics.
  • Revised Boolean (Yes/No) Advanced Search fields to reflect new regulatory data. Also added two new Boolean search fields to look for records with DuPont data and records that may be selectable in ALOHA.
  • Updated desktop version. Key changes include revising the embedded browser behavior and bug fixes related to copying and pasting.
  • Updated helps.
  • Minor changes and bug fixes.

Version 2.2 (March 2012)

  • Updated data to include new AEGLs, PACs, Hazmat Table (49 CFR 172.101) values, and DOT Hazard Labels.
  • Revised advanced search so that all text fields allow "contains" searches. When your search criteria includes multiple words (in this case, "words" are any words or phrases separated by spaces), the search looks for matches that contain the words in any order. (If you want to find a multi-word phrase that matches your search criteria exactly—including spaces and punctuation—run a "contains exact phrase" advanced search.)
  • Modified chemical datasheet fields to include a special note when the field has information from the ERG. The note identifies the specific ERG Guide that the recommendations come from—and it provides a link to a PDF of that guide.
  • Revised the order of some identifiers on the chemical datasheets: CAS Numbers are now first, followed by UN/NA Numbers and then DOT Hazard Labels.
  • Minor changes and bug fixes.

Version 2.1 (December 2011)

  • Added multi-word search capability to simple name searches (and "contains" advanced searches). "Words" are any words or phrases separated by spaces; the search looks for matches that contain the words in any order. In most cases, this will lead to improved search results. Note that "contains exact phrase" advanced searches function the way the old search worked: they will find only exact matches to your search criteria (that is, "contains exact phrase" matches must be in the same word order, including spaces and punctuation). Contains searches give you better flexibility.
  • Revised LOC display significantly. Data has been updated to include new AEGLs, ERPGs, and PACs. Note that interim AEGLs are now included and that PACs have replaced TEELs in the database.
  • Updated desktop standalone version. Key changes include a new embedded browser and the ability to run auto-updates when a new version is released.
  • Revised helps significantly, particularly in the Reference Guides section.
  • Minor changes and bug fixes.

Version 2.0.1 (March 2009)

  • Assigned certain aqueous solutions and chemical mixtures containing water to the water reactive group. This may change the reactivity predictions involving those chemicals.
  • Added TEELs to three chemical datasheets.
  • Deleted one chemical datasheet.

Version 2.0 (February 2009)

  • Added new UN/NA datasheets with response information from the 2008 Emergency Response Guidebook and shipping information from the 49 CFR hazmat table.
  • Updated data on the chemical datasheets, including the latest values for AEGLs, ERPGs, and TEELs.
  • Updated reactivity predictions, including adding potential gas byproducts.
  • Developed a standalone version of the program that replaces the functionality previously in the CAMEOfm program. The standalone version can share information with CAMEOfm and ALOHA.

Version 1.0 (February 2007)

  • Created the CAMEO Chemicals site, which allowed CAMEOfm's chemical library and reactivity prediction tool to be accessed online, as well as in the CAMEOfm program.
  • Improved ranking of search results to allow quicker access to the response information on the chemical datasheets.
