Installing Spill Tools
On a Windows PC
Once you have downloaded the installation program, in Windows 95, 98, NT, XP, or Vista, in the Explorer, double-click the "Spiltool_Win95-XP.exe" file icon, then follow the directions you'll see on your screen.
On a Mac
The Spill Tools installer program has been compressed as a self-extracting zip file so that it can be downloaded more easily from the Internet. [Need help with compressed files?]
Once you have uncompressed the Spill Tools Installer, double-click it, click "Install" after viewing the introductory screens, and then follow the directions you'll see on your screen. The installer will look for a folder named "Hazmat." If it doesn't find this folder, it will create a new "Hazmat" folder on your hard drive (or startup volume, if you have more than one drive).
Running Spill Tools
In Windows
To start Spill Tools in Windows 95, 98, NT, XP, or Vista from the Start menu, under Programs, from the Spill Tools submenu, select either "Dispersant Mission Planner," "In-situ Burn Calculator," or "Mechanical Equipment Calculator."
On a Mac
Open the "Hazmat" folder, and then, to start
- The Mechanical Equipment Calculator, double-click "Mechanical Equipment Calculator."
- The In-situ Burn Calculator, double-click "In-situ Burn Calculator."
- The Dispersant Mission Planner, double-click "Dispersant Mission Planner."
For Windows and Mac Users
The Spill Tools installer created a "Hazmat" directory (folder) at the location you indicated on your hard drive, and placed Spill Tools and its supporting files in that directory (folder). To ensure trouble-free operation of Spill Tools, do not move any files out of the "Hazmat" directory (folder) or rename any files it contains. It serves as the location for several NOAA OR&R software products (some supporting files used by Spill Tools are also used by other software we produce). To ensure that you can download other software later without problems, don't move or rename the "Hazmat" directory (folder).
Spill Tools was developed by the Office of Response and Restoration (OR&R), National Ocean Service, NOAA.
OR&R cannot provide any support for Spill Tools, and NOAA cannot warrant accuracy or completeness.
