2020 Oregon Marine Debris Action Plan Educator Workshop

FEBRUARY 24, 2020 — On January 30-31, Marine Debris Program representatives Andrew Mason (Pacific Northwest Regional Coordinator) and Shanelle Naone (Pacific Islands Regional Communications and Outreach Coordinator) attended a workshop comprised of partners from across Oregon.

The gathering allowed participants to share updates on their efforts to educate students and the public about marine debris.

The two-day workshop was hosted by the Oregon Coast Aquarium and Surfrider Foundation, and was supported by the National Marine Sanctuaries Foundation. It focused on marine debris outreach, messaging, research, and education throughout the state. This was the second annual meeting of its kind, with the first workshop being held in January 2019. Participants reviewed the updated Oregon Marine Debris Action Plan and identified next steps for collaborative efforts. Participants outlined a framework for a marine debris outreach and education plan for Oregon that they plan to carry out over the next few months.
