2017 Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill and Ecosystem Science Conference (GoMOSES)

FEBRUARY 17, 2017--OR&R staff had a strong presence at the Gulf of Mexico Research Institute’s annual conference, the 2017 Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill and Ecosystem Science Conference, held from February 6-9 in New Orleans, LA.

This year’s conference, sponsored by NOAA (and others) and chaired by OR&R Director Dave Westerholm, focused on ecosystem approaches to Gulf response and restoration. Dave Westerholm delivered the keynote speech to open the conference. Scott Lundgren of OR&R’s Emergency Response Division participated in an engaging expert panel during the opening plenary that discussed how science and scientists influence and participate in the response continuum. Among the 1080 attendees representing response stakeholders as well as academic researchers, the OR&R presence and impact on the conference was strong. Staff delivered timely findings and information regarding spill response, modeling, mitigation options, decision support tools, Deepwater Horizon oil spill damage assessment findings.
