Arctic ERMA at the International Conference on Arctic Science

APRIL 21, 2017--Next week, OR&R will introduce the first glimpse of the new polar projections of Arctic ERMA at the International Conference on Arctic Science: Bringing Knowledge to Action, to be held in Reston, VA, on April 26.

The ability to choose several polar projections will improve data and mapping accuracy and will increase communications and data sharing with other Arctic Nations. The presentation will be part of a special session of the Arctic Council's Emergency Prevention, Preparedness and Response (EPPR) Working Group focused on oil spill research and technology. Other EPPR projects results and data will be integrated into the polar projections of Arctic ERMA. The EPPR Chair will also present OR&R's work on the state-of-the-art remote sensing of oil to improve detection and classification of oil weathering and concentrations so that cleanup and injury assessment decisions can be made more quickly and comprehensively. Both of these projects were funded by the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement.
