APRIL 7, 2017--Emergency responders have a new resource for hazardous materials incidents: the CAMEO Chemicals app was released this week for both iOS and Android mobile devices.

From hazards and incident response recommendations to public safety guidelines and chemical property information, CAMEO Chemicals lets emergency responders and planners learn more about thousands of hazardous chemicals.

CAMEO Chemicals also includes a tool to predict if an explosion, toxic gas byproduct, or other safety hazard might occur if a group of chemicals were mixed together.

The new app fulfills a need that emergency responders have been clamoring for: the ability to have that critical response information at their fingertips, on the go, and in a format that doesn't require an internet connection.

The app is the fourth format for CAMEO Chemicals, which is also available as a website, mobile website, and desktop program for Windows and Mac. CAMEO Chemicals is a popular tool, with around 130,000 downloads and over 2.5 million website visitors last year alone.

The newly released app contains the same chemical database and most of the same functionality as the other CAMEO Chemicals formats.

Additionally, there are some new features that are only available in the app:

• A "type ahead" feature for simplified chemical name searches
• A Share feature to generate and email PDFs and other export files from the app
• The ability to maintain the current MyChemicals list between sessions and also to save collections to the device for future use

CAMEO Chemicals is part of the CAMEO® software suite, which is developed jointly by NOAA and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The CAMEO suite provides tools to assist responders during chemical emergencies, and to help emergency planners prepare for them ahead of time.
