Do Swordfish Make Good Pets?

FEBRUARY 17, 2017--Does a parrotfish need friends? Where do fish sleep? Can goldfish jump over rocks? How fast do fish swim?

So many questions were raised by young scientists during three meetings held Friday, February 10, when ORR stopped by PS 146 in Brooklyn to share their expertise with several kindergarten classes. The kindergarten scientists are studying the shore and, since January, they've been researching fish to figure out if they might be able to take care of some in their classrooms. They've taken trips to the shore, read about fish, learned about habitats, and for two weeks they have been interviewing local "fish experts." We were thrilled to hear some of what they've learned so far and to get to share our experience. With all the work they are doing to prepare, it's clear these kindergarteners are going to be able to create healthy homes for several new classroom fish. It's also a good bet these researchers are well on their way to becoming fish experts themselves. We can't wait to return in the spring to see how things turn out!
