Dr. Sullivan and NOAA Leadership Thank Staff for Work on Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill

OCTOBER 16, 2015--On Tuesday, October 13, Dr. Kathryn Sullivan and NOAA leadership thanked the DC area staff for five years of hard work on the Deepwater Horizon oil spill Natural Resource Damage Assessment, settlement, and early restoration efforts.

The assessment formed the basis of the recently released Draft Programmatic Damage Assessment and Restoration Plan (PDARP) and Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS). The draft plan would allocate up to $8.8 billion for natural resource injuries under a proposed settlement with BP.

There is still much work to come. The trustees will be receiving public comments on the draft plan through December 4, 2015. Once the plan is approved and the settlement is finalized, NOAA will continue to work with all of the trustees to plan, approve, and implement restoration projects.
