Great Lakes Gear Up for Action on Marine Debris

On May 1, 2014, NOAA Marine Debris Program staff participated in a round-table panel on "The Future of the Great Lakes" at the Water Institute Research Symposium at the University of Waterloo in Ontario.

Participants discussed various challenges for the region -- including marine debris -- successes, and the link between science and policy. Marine Debris Program staff presented information on an upcoming land-based marine debris action plan, the first of its kind for the Great Lakes. The plan is in the final stages of drafting following a third and final planning workshop held in February by the Marine Debris Program and partners in the region.
