Increasing Preparedness, Starting with Alabama

In an effort to increase preparedness for acute marine debris events, NOAA's Marine Debris Program is working with states to create Marine Debris Regional Response Plans, starting with the State of Alabama.

On Wednesday, November 5, NOAA’s MDP hosted a workshop at the Five Rivers Delta Resource Center to verify agency roles and responsibilities and identify agency’s existing capabilities to respond to marine debris. The workshop had 29 attendees representing 11 different federal, state, and local agencies. The success of the workshop was greatly enhanced by facilitation assistance from NOAA’s Coastal Services Center and the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
