The International Coastal Cleanup Turns the Tide on Trash

September 20, 2014, marked the 29th annual International Coastal Cleanup, and the NOAA Marine Debris Program is a proud sponsor of the effort.

Marine Debris Program and other NOAA staff came out in full force participating in cleanups across the country including: Charles River in Boston, East Harbor State Park in Ohio, Fairhope Pier in Alabama, Shi Shi Beach in Washington, Waikiki in Hawaii, and at the Anacostia State Park in the nation’s capital. Volunteers found trash ranging from plastic balloons to derelict fishing line. Altogether, staff helped pick up more than 1,500 pounds of trash. Thank you to all volunteers who came out on Saturday to clean up our Great Lakes and oceans!
