Lake Huron Place-Based Education Summer Teaching Institute
AUGUST 12, 2016--On Tuesday, August 9, the NOAA Marine Debris Program's Communications and Education Specialist Krista Stegemann participated in the 2016 Lake Huron Place-Based Education Summer Teacher Institute, hosted by the Northeast Michigan Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative in Oscoda, Michigan.
She led hands-on activities and spoke about marine debris, solutions to address it, and how to incorporate those topics into a classroom. She learned about place-based education and creating a sense of ownership with students toward their local environment. The Institute included participation from many Michigan-area teachers ranging in grade levels from elementary to high school.
