Marine Debris at the Alaska Forum on the Environment

FEBRUARY 10, 2017 -- Each year, the Alaska Forum on the Environment brings together a diverse audience to discuss ongoing and emerging environmental issues within the many different communities and regions in the state. It provides an invaluable opportunity to hear from and interact with stakeholders from communities – sometimes large, but often small - across Alaska on what they are experiencing and seeing in their local environments.

For this year’s event, attended by over 1,100 people, OR&R staff worked with partners to plan and coordinate three sessions on February 8th and 9th, each focusing on different aspects of the marine debris issue. Presentations from many different partners across the state provided information on topics ranging from lessons learned in removal operations, to education and outreach, to the new tools and techniques people are using to investigate and address marine debris presence and impacts.
