Marine Debris at the NOAA Open House

FEBRUARY 17, 2017--On Saturday, February 11, OR&R representatives from the NOAA Marine Debris Program participated in the annual NOAA Open House in Silver Spring, MD.

At this annual event, the NOAA Silver Spring campus opens its doors to the general public in order to make accessible the work that NOAA does. This year’s event drew approximately 1,400 people who came to listen to presentations, participate in outreach activities at the many tables available at the science center, and even get swept away by the NOAA Hurricane Simulator.

The Marine Debris Program hosted an outreach table at which visitors could spin a wheel to answer a marine debris question, handle and discuss examples of debris, and create their own marine debris-themed art. It was a busy day that provided the opportunity to spread marine debris messaging to a wider audience.
