Marine Debris Program Co-Hosts Research Workshop in Hawaii

APRIL 7, 2017--On March 30, the NOAA Marine Debris Program and University of Hawaii at Manoa hosted their first Hawaii Marine Debris Action Plan (HI-MDAP) Research Workshop at the University of Hawaii, Manoa campus.

Participants of the July 2016 HI-MDAP Workshop determined that the marine debris community needed to "identify marine debris research priorities through a consultative workshop." This Research Workshop included twenty-two participants who currently and actively engage in marine debris research or data collection in Hawaii. Fourteen presentations on research projects aided the large group discussion to identify current marine debris research in the Hawaiian Islands, determine marine debris research priorities for Hawaii, and evaluate gaps and resources needed to address these priorities.
