National Flood Insurance Program Floodplain Management Course

SEPT. 11, 2015--During the second week of September, the Gulf of Mexico Disaster Response Center (DRC) hosted the course Floodplain Management through the National Flood Insurance Program (L-273).

Trainers from FEMA and the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs–Office of Water Resources presented information about how to administer local floodplain management ordinances. In addition, students learned about floodplain management concepts, flood insurance rate maps and studies, as well as the relationship between floodplain management and flood insurance. All participants were regionally local to the Alabama area including Mobile County, the City of Mobile, Mississippi/Alabama SeaGrant, Montgomery County, City of Prichard, City of Fairhope, City of Anniston, Baldwin County Commission, Poarch Creek, City of Daleville, City of Enterprise, and the City of Dothan.

The DRC hosts this event annually.
