NOAA Experts Teach Next Generation of Marine Scientists Live Online

In the National Ocean Science Bowl's (NOSB) first ever "Ask an Expert" Google+ Hangout, NOAA's OR&R experts answered on live-streaming video questions about oil in the marine environment from students across the country.

On Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. Eastern, students were able to submit questions and watch experts answer their questions live online. OR&R environmental scientist Ken Finkelstein, oceanographer Amy MacFadyen, and policy analyst Meg Imholt participated as guest speakers in the NOSB-hosted event.

This year's NOSB will test students' knowledge of "The Science of Oil in the Ocean," making OR&R a natural partner. Questions will cover a range of topics including oceanography, biology, and policy.

The Consortium for Ocean Leadership's National Ocean Science Bowl is an academic competition and program that addresses a national gap in environmental and earth sciences in public education by introducing high school students to and engaging them in ocean science, preparing them for ocean science-related and other STEM careers, and helping them become knowledgeable citizens and environmental stewards.
