NOAA Regional Preparedness Training Workshop in Mobile, Alabama

JUNE 9, 2016 -- From June 8-9, 2016, NOAA's Gulf of Mexico Disaster Response Center partnered with the University of New Hampshire's Coastal Response Research Center to host a NOAA Regional Preparedness Training workshop in Mobile, Alabama.

This was the second in a series of three workshops being held throughout the Gulf region.

Each of these workshops focuses on a unique issue of concern in that region.

The goal of the event in Mobile was to increase awareness and coordination during response to and recovery from natural disasters that result in widespread impacts to industry, commerce, communities, and natural resources in the Mississippi-Alabama coastal zone.

Twenty individuals representing federal, state, and local government as well as private industry and non-governmental organizations participated in the event. After a brief primer on federal disaster and oil spill legislation, attendees used a scenario to identify potential strategies for improved response, enhanced resilience, and quicker recovery.
