NOAA SSC Addresses Students in NYC

On April 30, 2014, OR&R Scientific Support Coordinator Ed Levine addressed an audience of undergraduates and high school students at the Annual NOAA CREST Day at The City College of the City University of New York.

He spoke about NOAA’s role in the response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and his presentation also included a film on recovery following the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska in 1989.

CREST, a partnership with NOAA, is the Cooperative Remote Sensing Science and Technology Center whose vision is “to contribute to the development of world-class cadre of faculty, students and researchers that will gain knowledge and expertise in cutting-edge research in science; engineering and technology with special emphasis on satellites and remote sensing of the Earth.”

The goal of the day’s event was to interest and encourage young students to pursue careers in science through participation in the Center’s NOAA Mission Driven Science and Education programs. It is a major recruitment event as well as the kick-off for the Center’s summer outreach programs.
