Oil Spill Drill in New Orleans

JUNE 26, 2015--On June 24-25, 2015, OR&R participated in a U.S. Coast Guard Preparedness for Response Exercise Program (PREP) drill in New Orleans, Louisiana, with Shell Oil playing the responsible party.

The two-day exercise was designed to simulate the fourth day after a broken pipeline at Shell’s platform on the coast of Louisiana, with significant shoreline impact.

At the exercise, OR&R provided and damage assessment support consistent with National Contingency Plan (NCP) roles. OR&R tested Electronic Data Capture techniques by recording Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) field sampling data on mobile devices and pushed it, via a remote server, to the Environmental Response Management Application (ERMA®), and NOAA’s new data management tool, Data, Integration, Visualization, Exploration and Reporting (DIVER). ERMA was used as the common operational picture to ensure Shell and participating federal agencies had access to the same response and NRDA data.
