Oregon Marine Debris Community Comes Together for a Research Prioritization Workshop

JUNE 2, 2017--On May 30, twenty-four researchers and practitioners came together for Oregon’s first Marine Debris Research Prioritization Workshop at Oregon State University in Corvallis.

The workshop, sponsored by the NOAA Marine Debris Program, Oregon Sea Grant, Oregon State University, and the EPA, built upon an action from the recent Oregon Marine Debris Action Plan, with a goal of prioritizing research needs to help address marine debris issues in the state.

Over the course of the workshop, forum discussions and small group activities created energetic conversations and information sharing. As a final action, the research topics vetted during the workshop were ranked by participants. The workshop proceedings and list of research priorities will be compiled and released in July.
