OR&R and NESDIS Discuss Satellite Imagery

JANUARY 27, 2017--On Wednesday, January 25, OR&R staff met with NOAA National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) leadership to discuss how we are integrating satellite imagery into our work and how we could improve collaborations going forward.

Participants from NESDIS were Dr. Stephen Volz, NESDIS Assistant Administrator; Karen St. Germaine, Director of NESDIS' Office of System Architecture and Advanced Planning; Harry Cikanek, Director of the Joint Polar Satellite System Program Office; and Joseph Kolesnick from the NESDIS Chief of Staff's Office. During the 90-minute meeting the NESDIS group received an overview of the breadth of work OR&R undertakes followed by a detailed discussion on when and how satellite data aids our work. The NESDIS staff encourage future coordination to better inform emergency response planning, damage assessment, debris tracking, and data delivery services.
