OR&R Conducts Shoreline Cleanup Assessment Techniques (SCAT) Training in South Carolina

APRIL 10, 2015--Bradford Benggio, OR&R Scientific Support Coordinator for the southeast U.S., provided Shoreline Cleanup Assessment Techniques (SCAT) training for thirty-five state, federal, and industry representatives on April 7-9, 2015 at the U.S. Coast Guard Sector in Charleston.

The training focused on field responder-level training to prepare individuals to become trained in basics of conducting shoreline assessments, evaluating cleanup techniques and standard incident command system processes that will enable them to provide critical information needed to establish response priorities and conduct shoreline protection and cleanup during oil spills. The training emphasized marshes due to the importance of this habitat in the region. The three day training curriculum included classroom lectures, interactive exercises, field training and exercises, and an ecological risk assessment focused on response options in marshes.
