OR&R Director Addresses Spill Response Community at Clean Gulf Associates Annual Meeting

JULY 15, 2016--OR&R's Director, Dave Westerholm addressed around 140 oil spill responders, oil industry representatives, and civil servants representing several Federal agencies including the U.S. Coast Guard and the Department of Interior's Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement at Clean Gulf Associates Annual meeting held on July 14 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Clean Gulf Associates is a non-profit oil spill cooperative dedicated to serving the Gulf Coast oil industry. In his address, Mr. Westerholm provided an update of OR&R and recent personnel changes, upcoming training opportunities, and an overview of Deepwater Horizon data availability. He also focused on how to use existing data and technology evolution to improve response and natural resource damage assessments before concluding with a discussion on how we can answer questions like "What if we hadn't used in situ burning?" and "How do we communicate and set expectations during event?" The session was very well received with lots of interest in Science of Oil Spills training for the private sector. OR&R's Paige Doelling was in attendance.
