OR&R Diversity Committee Focuses on Gender Inequality in the Workplace and at Home

MARCH 17, 2017--On March 16, the OR&R Diversity Committee presented a video and opportunity for discussion via WebEx on Gender Inequality to about 35 participants across the program.

Featured was a short film, Michael Kimmel: Why gender equality is good for everyone — men included. A funny but illustrative TED talk by Michael Kimmel, author of Angry White Men, the piece is a persuasive talk on why gender equality is good for everyone and society as a whole.

Also discussed was the podcast, Freakonomics Radio: What Are Gender Barriers Made Of? that looks at the economics of workplace and pay equality.

Finally, the group looked at statistics from Gender Pay Inequality, a 2016 U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee report analyzed in Equal Pay For Equal Work: The Gender Wage Gap By The Numbers from Forbes Magazine.

Many interesting points and questions were raised in the discussion on this important topic. If you did not have the opportunity to attend, be sure and check out the above links.
