OR&R Examines Lessons Learned from DWH Data Management and Chemistry Activities

JANUARY 27, 2017--OR&R’s Assessment and restoration Division brought a small group of data management and chemistry experts back together along with the resources leads for the Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) to examine lessons learned from the Deepwater Horizon (DWH) disaster.

There was a large emphasis placed on the end-user and analyzing all phases of data management, including field planning, sampling, collecting and transporting samples to intake, shipping to over 40 labs, tracking of analyses and results, storing samples and data, and developing data management systems during the full event to support the NRDA. The group analyzed the use of our current DWH data management systems, the Environmental Response Management Application (ERMA) and the DIVER (Data Integration, Visualization, Exploration, and Reporting). Although it was a look back, the group was focused on what challenges should we tackle going forward to ensure lessons are applied to future spills.
