OR&R Participates in 2016 Urban Waters National Training Workshop

JULY 29, 2016--OR&R participated in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency sponsored 2016 Urban Waters National Training Workshop on July 26-28.

NOAA is part of the Urban Waters Federal Partnership, which is an innovative union of fourteen agencies working to provide integrated support to communities – particularly underserved and economically distressed communities – as they transform their local urban waters into centerpieces for community revitalization. The partnership was designed to break down federal program silos to promote more efficient and effective use of federal resources through better coordination and targeting of federal investments.

This year the workshop was open to all those working on natural resource conservation, environment, public health, community revitalization and resiliency, and economic development. The event was sold out with nearly 500 participants from around the country, including the 19 Designated Urban Waters Project Locations.

The event was used to unveil the Urban Waters Federal Partnership National Strategic Workplan, which should advance the program through 2018. Workshop highlights included sessions on "Green Infrastructure Providing Community-Based Solutions", "Building Effective Public Private Partnerships" and "Citizen Science- Monitoring and Engaging Youth".
