OR&R Participates in Polar Tankers Worst-Case Spill Exercise

OCTOBER 16, 2015--During the week of October 12, OR&R’s Emergency Response Division participated in a worst-case spill exercise conducted by Polar Tankers, Inc. in Port Angeles, Washington.

Polar Tankers, owned and operated by ConocoPhillips, is one of the largest fleets of U.S. flagged oil tankers. The fleet transports more than 100 million barrels of Alaska North Slope crude oil each year to refineries in Puget Sound, San Francisco, Long Beach, and Hawaii. The exercise scenario simulated response to a release of 73,000 barrels of Alaska North Slope crude oil from a tanker struck by a barge while at anchor in Port Angeles Harbor. The exercise ran for two days, simulating a full 24-hour operational period.
