OR&R Presents at 2017 National/Regional Spill Response Leadership Meeting

JUNE 16, 2017-- Staff from OR&R’s Emergency Response Division and Assessment and Restoration Division participated in the annual national-regional meeting of the national agency leadership for the National Oil and Hazardous Substance Pollution Contingency Plan (NCP).

The group included the 15 involved federal departments and agencies and the Environmental Protection Agency and Coast Guard co-leads from 13 regions around the United States. This annual gathering, known as the NRT/RRT Co-Chairs meeting, rotates among regions and was held on June 13-14 in Pittsburgh, PA, within Regional Response Team Region 3 this year.

The assembled national and regional leadership heard presentations, joined in facilitated discussions, and participated in an exercise collectively spanning a wide range of topics related to oil and chemical spill emergency response. The OR&R Emergency Response Division Chief, as the designated DOC/NOAA representative to the team, participated in discussions. Several attending NOAA representatives presented or led discussions on topics during spill preparedness and response including: unmanned aircraft system use, coordination of academic engagement, data management, best management practices, and scientific support related to threatened and endangered species protection.
