OR&R Presents to NASA

JUNE 9, 2017--On June 6, OR&R’s Lisa DiPinto and Ed Levine gave an out of this world presentation to the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center’s Disaster Working Group.

The presentation was coordinated with NASA by Robin Garcia (Governmental Affairs). This NASA workgroup handles the International Disaster Charter for coordination of remote sensing data acquisition and processing for large-scale emergency response incidents. They operate in a tiered manner to escalate the level of support as appropriate.

The presentation discussed mandates, roles, services and capabilities of ORR and other NOAA line offices. Additionally, highlights of ORR’s role at the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and use of remote sensing were discussed. The presentation led to a discussion of future potential collaborations on remote sensing studies and ways to more closely align our programs when the need may arise.
