OR&R Spotlight: Krista Stegemann

JANUARY 8, 2016--Hi, I’m Krista Stegemann, the new Communications and Education Specialist with the Marine Debris Program here in Silver Spring.

I’ve been in my position for about four and a half months and am the go-to for blog, web stuff, writing/copy-editing, and education for the MDP. I’m really enjoying my position so far and working with such a great group of people!

I came to OR&R back in August after finishing my master’s degree in marine biology from James Cook University in Townsville, Australia. Previously, I attended the University of New Hampshire to earn my bachelor’s degree in marine and freshwater biology. After undergrad, I spent a year teaching fifth grade science at an inner-city charter school in Little Rock, Arkansas. Moving on to graduate school, I spent my time doing marine ecological research and volunteering at a local aquarium.

Originally from upstate New York, I enjoy getting back up north when I can, especially to enjoy the beautiful fall colors and the snow for cross country skiing! I love the beach, exploring the outdoors, good food, and taking the occasional crazy adventure. Silver Spring seems like it has a lot to offer and I’m enjoying getting to know it.
