OR&R Staff Spotlight: Melodie Hardwick

APRIL 21, 2017--Melodie Hardwick is a Mobile Application Designer with OR&R’s Emergency Response Division (ERD).

Since joining the team in May 2015, her biggest project has been transitioning one of ERD’s most widely-used products, CAMEO Chemicals, from a website and desktop program into a mobile app. She started this ambitious project by creating a basic prototype and integrating the major features of the CAMEO Chemicals website. She then worked with the CAMEO team to refine features, finalize the design, run quality assurance, and release the app to the App Store and Google Play.

Melodie has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science with a minor in Business from Walla Walla University. Because software development is a field that changes rapidly, Melodie is an expert at learning new things and broadening her skillset as the software industry evolves.

Prior to her work at NOAA, Melodie worked in educational software for over ten years. She enjoyed working in an industry with the goal of helping children succeed and developing a lifelong love of learning. Outside of work, she likes to spend time with her family, bake, read, and play games.

Melodie’s work on the CAMEO Chemicals app has impacted thousands of individuals. To date, the app has had over 2,000 downloads from 40 countries across the world. One user calls the app a “must have app” for responders.

NOAA is grateful to Melodie and all her hard work in creating this new app!
