Reactive Chemicals Specialist Updates Chemists on Revised Tool

APRIL 22, 2016--At the April 14 AIChE (American Institute of Chemical Engineers) Spring Meeting and 9th Global Congress on Process Safety in Houston, Texas, Dr. Dave Gorman, Reactive Chemicals Specialist of Dow Chemical, updated congress attendees on recent improvements to the Chemical Reactivity Worksheet (CRW).

The CRW, a tool developed through the collaboration of several organizations--including OR&R, the EPA, the Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS), the Materials Technology Institute, Dow Chemical Company, DuPont, Philips, and others--was recently transitioned to CCPS for continued development and distribution. The tool is available for download from the CCPS website.

Dr. Gorman’s presentation, "Updated Chemical Reactivity Worksheet (CRW 4) for the Determination of Chemical Compatibility" was part of the Technical Steering Committee meeting, including representatives from over 250 participating chemical companies around the world, as well as Chemical Safety Board (CSB) officials. The presentation outlined the new features of CRW version 4.0, now regarded as the gold standard for reactive chemical information, including an expanded number of chemicals and a new section that manages compatibility issues of common chemicals with materials of construction.
