Remediation and Management of Contaminated Sediments

JANUARY 20, 2017--Ken Finkelstein and Jay Field of OR&R’s Assessment and Restoration Division attended the Ninth International Conference on Remediation and Management of Contaminated Sediments, sponsored by Battelle, in New Orleans, Louisiana, on January 9 -12.

This seminal conference meets every two years and provides updates on sediment toxicity and ecological risk assessment of interest to NOAA's Damage Assessment, Remediation, and Restoration Program (DARRP). A variety of interests were represented. New York-New Jersey presentations were highly represented and waste site information presented included the Hudson River, the Gowanus Canal, Newtown Creek, and the Passaic River, all headed for NOAA-led Natural Resource Damage Assessments. Questions to the speakers were encouraged and NOAA attendees made use of that to ask some probing questions concerning potential impacts to NOAA trust resources.
