Training Alaska Spill Responders How to Survey Oiled Shorelines

JUNE 9, 2016 -- From June 7–9, 2016, the Emergency Response Division of NOAA's Office of Response and Restoration conducted Shoreline Cleanup Assessment Technique (SCAT) team member training at the Alaska Chadux Corporation Training Center in Anchorage, Alaska. Participants were from local oil industry companies, Alaska state agencies, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management, and U.S. Coast Guard. The class enjoyed sunny field exercises along the Cook Inlet shoreline, with opportunities to explore the effects of oil on marsh, mixed-sand and gravel beaches, and sheltered tidal flats. This learning experience helps increase the base of spill readiness for a broad spectrum of industry and agency oil spill responders in Alaska.
