Trustees Seek Public Input on Restoring Cape Fear River Natural Resources

AUGUST 7, 2015--On August 5, 2015, NOAA and trustees issued a press release announcing a public meeting and the posting of a restoration scoping document for the Kerr-McGee Chemical Corporation site in Navassa, North Carolina.

The restoration scoping document details the environmental injuries from the creosote wood treatment operation in Navassa (near Wilmington). It describes concepts for restoring the resources, criteria for identifying suitable restoration projects, and an explanation of the restoration planning process.

The trustees will host a public meeting at 6:00 p.m. on August 18, 2015, at the Navassa Community Center, 338 Main Street, Navassa, North Carolina, to describe their efforts and solicit restoration ideas from the public.

The restoration scoping document and information about the comment process can be found here. Comments will be accepted through September 4, 2015.
