Changing Seas: A Decade After Deepwater

NOVEMBER 2, 2020 — An OR&R biologist was part of a discussion panel for the Eighth Annual Friday Harbor (Washington) Film Festival on October 25. The panel discussed the featured PBS documentary film, Changing Seas:  A Decade After Deepwater, which showcased the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative (GoMRI) research program and its scientists over the last ten years.   

Director Liz Smith discussed her project, and the panel was moderated by Friends of the San Juan Marine Protection and Policy Director Lovel Pratt. Regional spill response capacity and needs also discussed in the context of the science described in the film. In addition to NOAA, a retired Alaska Fish and Game biologist and Executive Director of the Alaska Sea Life Center, the San Juan County Emergency Management Director, and a wildlife veterinarian from SR3 were also represented on the panel.
