Disaster Preparedness Program Develops New Situational Reporting Form

JULY 13, 2020 — In preparation for peak hurricane season, the Disaster Preparedness Program (DPP) has launched a new Situational Report (“SitRep”) tool to support the National Ocean Service’s (NOS) incident management activities.

The new SitRep tool reflects DPP’s mission focus on continuous improvement and is designed to serve as a “one-stop-shop” for NOS Incident Management Team (IMT) reporting. It streamlines information collection and sharing and better positions NOS to respond to the information needs of future incidents.

Tested in May during a NOS virtual tabletop exercise and further improved with lessons learned through the exercise, the SitRep tool provides greater information visibility across NOS and the ability to generate real-time visualizations of critical data, such as personnel deployed to support incident response.

The DPP and NOS IMT will continue to work to strengthen the tools and operational capabilities that enable NOS to respond effectively to and support partners and communities in future disaster events.
