Marine Debris Program Chief Scientist Participates in STEM Pen Pal Program

JUNE 30, 2017--Marine Debris Program (MDP) Chief Scientist, Amy V. Uhrin, participated in the 2016-2017 Letters to a Pre-Scientist (LPS) campaign and received her final pen pal letter earlier this month.

The mission of LPS is to inspire and empower middle school students from under-resourced communities to pursue STEM careers. Scientists from around the globe volunteer to be paired with a student and to exchange quarterly letters throughout the school year. Amy's pen pal was a fifth grade student at Main Street Intermediate School in Norwalk, OH. The school was featured on the LPS blog with a shout-out to MDP.
