Marine Debris Program Participates in Trash Monitoring Webinar Series

May 3, 2021 ─ On April 22, the Marine Debris Program’s California Regional Coordinator Sherry Lippiatt and Monitoring Coordinator Hillary Burgess presented on NOAA’s Marine Debris Monitoring and Assessment Project (MDMAP) as part of a California Trash Monitoring Webinar Series.

The webinar series is hosted by the California Water Boards Trash Monitoring Workgroup and the California Water Quality Monitoring Collaboration Network. The goal of the webinar series is to share collective knowledge to support current practices and advances in trash monitoring, and the development of data analysis and visualization tools aimed at assessing the effectiveness of policies and practices for limiting the amounts of trash in the environment.

Sherry and Hillary presented stories about how MDMAP data have been used and other outcomes in California, and shared updates to the methods and database that were informed by data analyses and stakeholder feedback.
