DECEMBER 9, 2019 — On November 26, the Marine Debris Program (MDP) released the Gulf of Maine Marine Debris Action Plan.

Report cover.

This document is the result of a productive and collaborative effort between the MDP and international and regional partners, including representatives from governments, non-profits, academia, and the private sector.

The purpose of the Action Plan is to address marine debris throughout the Gulf of Maine through coordinated actions. It integrates partners’ shared goals, objectives, and strategies to achieve those goals, and corresponding actions.

The MDP solicited stakeholder input to the Action Plan through three workshops, attended by participants from more than 80 partner organizations. Partners committed to a total of 77 actions. Going forward, the MDP will support partners’ actions by assisting with tasks where possible, tracking progress, identifying gaps and potential solutions, and sharing relevant news and resources.
