NOAA Provides Marine Debris Science Update to Teachers

MAY 1, 2023 — On April 20, the NOAA Marine Debris Program’s education specialist, Alexandria Gillen, presented at the National Science Teaching Association Science Update webinar series.

Nearly 150 educators from around the world attended the virtual seminar, titled “From Talking Trash to Taking Action: The Science of Marine Debris.” The presentation covered topics including types and sources of marine debris, impacts to wildlife and human communities, and solutions to this global crisis. Attendees included formal and informal educators as well as general science enthusiasts, many of whom shared that they planned to take the resources and suggestions for preventing marine debris back to their homes and schools.

A recording of the webinar, as well as additional archived webinars from the series, is available here. The Marine Debris Program looks forward to continuing to advance the ways we can work with teachers and inspire students in a virtual environment.
