We are proud to share that Dr. Mearns was recently recognized by the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA) as winner of its 2017 award in the Individual category for his exceptional lifetime achievements.

Established in 2007, NAMEPA is a marine industry-led organization of environmental stewards who work to preserve the marine environment by promoting sustainable marine-industry best practices and educating seafarers, students, and the public about ways to protect ocean, lake, and river resources.

NAMEPA awards are judged along the objectives of: alignment with NAMEPA goals (“Save our Seas”), educational benefit, environmental benefit, innovation, and measurable successes in improving protection of the marine environment. NAMEPA’s Chairman and Co-Founder/Executive Director effused: “Dr. Alan Mearns has demonstrated such a commitment on behalf of the marine environment, and has been proactive in protecting the health of our seas.” Dr. Mearns is clearly deserving of recognition for decades of exceptional contributions to ocean pollution science, and for enhancing public awareness about the effects of marine pollution on complex biological systems.

Awards will be presented at NAMEPA’s 10th Anniversary Awards Dinner on October 26th in New York City.
