OR&R at the 2018 Waterfront Conference in New York City

MAY 11, 2018 — On May 8, OR&R staff joined the Waterfront Alliance's annual Waterfront Conference, "Cities on the Edge," which attracted a consortium of stakeholders with varied interests in the New York and New Jersey Harbor waterfront.

The day consisted of panel discussions, networking, and a boat tour of the New York and New Jersey Harbor area including the Kill Van Kull, Upper Bay, and a small portion of the Hudson River.  Panel discussions of interest to NOAA focused on what scientists have learned post-Superstorm Sandy about present and future flood risk in the context of climate change and rising seas, hazard mitigation, opportunities for and success in reconnecting communities to the waterfront, innovative storm water management techniques using nature based solutions, and community-based plans for Newtown Creek and Flushing Bay.
