OR&R Assessment and Restoration Division Participates in Houston Virtual Green Job Program

OCTOBER 13, 2020 — On October 6, the Southeast Assessment and Restoration Division Regional Manager, Kevin Kirsch, participated in the Houston Virtual Green Job Program.  The event was organized by Citizens' Environmental Coalition, an organization out of Houston, TX that fosters dialogue, education, and collaboration on environmental issues in the Houston and Gulf Coast region.

The event provided an opportunity for students from Texas to join a virtual small group and informally talk with environmental professionals about career paths, opportunities, and gain a better understanding about different jobs in the environmental sector.

Most of the students participating were university level or recently graduated.  Using a virtual roundtable platform, students were able to self-select which professionals to engage with.  Kevin had the opportunity to discuss the type of work that the Office of Response and Restoration does, differences between the public and private sector, and coach the students on options for beginning an environmental career.

Other NOAA offices participating included fisheries biologists from NOAA Fisheries (NMFS) and the Flower Gardens National Marine Sanctuary.
