OR&R Biologist Presents to Salish Sea Association of Marine Naturalists in Friday Harbor, Washington

SEPT. 3, 2019 — On Aug. 29, OR&R biologist Gary Shigenaka gave an invited presentation to the Salish Sea Association of Marine Naturalists at the Friday Harbor Whale Museum in Friday Harbor, Washington.

On Aug. 29, OR&R biologist Gary Shigenaka gave an invited presentation to the Salish Sea Association of Marine Naturalists at the Friday Harbor Whale Museum in Friday Harbor, Washington.

He summarized knowledge gained from cetacean monitoring and studies following the Exxon Valdez and the Deepwater Horizon and provided thoughts on the implications for the endangered Southern Resident population of killer whales in Pacific Northwest waters. At the request of the attendees, he also gave a bonus talk on OR&R research into the effects of oil and dispersants on whale baleen.
